Clay Foundations

A new series of the Clay Foundations course will begin soon, running on Tuesday mornings from 9.30–12.00 on 21 and 28 April and then on 9, 16, 23 and 30 June. Note: There are no course dates in May.
Across six sessions we’ll explore a range of hand-building techniques, including thumb pots, slab building and coiling. The course is designed to give you both structure and freedom, with guided projects alongside time, space and opportunity to develop your own ideas.
The programme will include:
* Week 1: thumb pot garlic graters and small coil-built bowls, along with preparing slabs for the following week
* Week 2: slab-built, imprinted mug, vase or vessel
* Week 3: a bee or insect hotel
* Week 4: a porcelain butter bell
* Week 5: refining and decorating pieces using engobes
* Week 6: transparent glazing, with work prepared for final firing
Depending on time, there may also be the opportunity to make small porcelain pieces such as cufflinks, brooches or pendants.
If you’ve been wanting to spend more time with clay and build confidence across different techniques, this course is a lovely way to do that. It’s also a chance to give yourself some creative time to relax and unwind, while making something with your hands.
