I’m a ceramic artist with a deep passion for creating art that captures the essence of places we hold dear. Whether it’s a custom house portrait or a piece inspired by the iconic Dutch canal houses, my work is all about bringing memories to life through the medium of clay.
A Lifelong Love for Ceramics
My fascination with ceramics began early, driven by a curiosity about how things are made and what things would feel like, even if you were not supposed to touch it. This passion led me to study Ceramics and Printmaking, becoming a qualified Art and Design teacher, and teaching internationally, including in the Netherlands where I’ve lived since 1999.
Inspiration and Technique
My work is inspired by clay’s tactile nature and endless possibilities, often incorporating textures from everyday objects. I reflect cultural and social elements in my ceramics, such as the distinctive Dutch architecture. A highlight of my collection is the imprinted porcelain tiles of historic canal houses, each unique yet playful. This playful approach ensures that each piece I create is unique, with its own story to tell.
You’ll often find cultural and social references in my work. I’m fascinated by how the Netherlands has been shaped by both geophysical constraints and the need to maximise available space. This influence is evident in urban planning, agriculture, and the distinctive architecture of the region, which I strive to reflect in my ceramics.
My Signature Work
One of the highlights of my collection is my imprinted porcelain tiles of historic canal houses, which hold iconic status within Dutch culture. The playful and whimsical details pressed into the clay—often using very recognizable objects—provide a fresh perspective with every piece. Though similar in style, each tile has its own unique character, offering a new way to appreciate these beloved landmarks.
A Community of Creativity
Beyond creating custom art, I’m deeply passionate about teaching and sharing my craft. Through my workshops and ceramics membership, I love helping others discover the joy of working with clay. My goal is to foster a creative community where everyone, from beginners to experienced artists, can connect, learn, and grow together.
